Two brothers and their nephew were waylaid and killed by armed bandits on the outskirts of Akobo County in Jonglei State last week, local officials said.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj, Tang Chatim, Uror County commissioner said: “On July 31, four young men were attacked at Pulbure while moving from the Walgak area in Akobo to Pieri Payam in Uror County. Mabil Chot Yong, Kong Chot Yong, and their nephew Buken Biliu were ambushed and shot dead on the spot while another man called Chuol Rik was injured.”

The commissioner condemned the killings and claimed the attack was carried out by bandits from the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA).

For his part, Lt. Col. Gatbel Machar, the Uror County police inspector, confirmed the incident, and no one was arrested as the assailants escaped the scene.

However, Joseph Lelmoy, the GPAA finance minister, denied knowledge of the incident.

“We are not aware of any such report. We have yet to be informed,” he said.
