Authorities in South Sudan’s Kapoeta State say they have arrested about 19 people suspected of being part of a criminal gang that has been accused of armed robberies in the state.

Kapoeta State Police Commissioner Ben Bilal Mamur told Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday that the suspects were arrested separately since the beginning of the month.

He said the gang is notorious for armed robberies along the Kapoeta-Narus and Kapoeta-Juba roads.

The police official added that four of the suspects have been identified as being notorious for armed robbers in the state.

Bilal said since the arrests, the rate of crimes has significantly reduced as the security forces remain vigilant and investigations continue.
