19 dead, 30 injured in Khartoum club shelling

The Soba Al-mahatta Emergency Room in Khartoum reported on Saturday that 19 people died and 30 others were injured last Wednesday when two mortar shells hit a viewing club in the Soba Al-mahatta area.

The Soba Al-mahatta Emergency Room in Sudan’s capital Khartoum reported on Saturday that 19 people died and 30 others were injured last Wednesday when two mortar shells hit a viewing club in the Soba Al-mahatta area.

The Emergency Room released a bulletin listing the names of the deceased and wounded.

Farouk Yagoub, the coordinator of the Soba Al-mahatta Emergency Room, explained to Radio Tamazuj that on 24, two mortar shells landed in the area. One of them struck the viewing club in Square One resulting in 19 deaths and 30 injuries, some of which were severe.

“Most of the injuries occurred among children and young people who were watching a football match at the viewing club,” Yagoub noted.

He said the shells caused damage to several homes, market buildings, and other properties.
