Motasim al-Hajj, a lawyer for families of victims of the September 2013 violence against protesters in Sudan, says about 18 families are demanding an investigative committee to be set up by the Justice Ministry to bring the perpetrators to justice before talking about any compensation.
Sudan’s Justice Minister Awad al-Hassan Al-Nur previously announced that the government will pay compensation to families of 86 protesters who died during protests that took place in September 2013 after the government lifted fuel subsidies.
Speaking to Al Tageer newspaper, Motasim said he held a meeting with his clients in Khartoum to know the ongoing developments in the case. He pointed out that the families of the victims informed him that they have not yet received any contact from the relevant authorities on investigations or compensation.
