17 new cases of cholera were recorded in Abu Zabad Hospital in Sudan’s West Kordofan State on Tuesday, a senior health official said.

The hospital’s medical director Abdul-Aziz Al Nair told Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday that they received 17 new cases of cholera in the area, raising the total number of cholera cases to 367 in the area.

However, he said despite the new cholera cases, there is a decrease in infection rates among citizens in the town which he attributes to awareness campaigns by health educators in the area.

Al-Nair pointed out that the main challenge they face is a lack of basic health services in rural areas.
