17 dead, 9 wounded in cattle raid in Jonglei State

At least 17 people including three women were killed and nine others wounded in an attack by cattle raiders on Jalle area in the north of Bor town in South Sudan’s Jonglei State on Wednesday, a parliamentarian from the area said.

Kuol Bol, member of the state assembly representing Jalle area, told Radio Tamazuj today that a group of cattle raiders from Boma State came and attacked Jalle area on Wednesday.

He further said the incident resulted in the killing of at least 17 people including three women and wounding of nine others, besides the abduction of three children from one family in the area.

Kuol pointed out that the wounded people were taken to Bor Hospital for treatment. He noted that the attackers raided over 12,000 head of cattle from local residents in Jalle area.

The lawmaker said that many people fled their homes after the incident. He claimed that local youth managed to kill about five perpetrators from the Murle tribe.

Meanwhile, Angok Gordon, State Minister of Health, said that Bor Hospital had received eight wounded people during clashes in Jalle, two in critical conditions.

Radio Tamazuj couldn’t reach officials from Pibor area to comment on the matter.
