Aircrafts suspected to belong to the Sudanese government dropped bombs in Raja County of Western Bahr al Ghazal of South Sudan on Sunday morning, wounding at least 16 people.
Raja County Commissioner Hassan Galab told Radio Tamazuj on Sunday that two Antonov aircrafts dropped bombs on Khor Shamam area at 2 a.m. while citizens were sleeping. He said that the bombing targeted a wide area and resulted in the wounding of 16 people including a woman and a child.
They were taken to the Wau Teaching Hospital for treatment. The top county official pointed out that the two aircrafts have not yet been identified, but hinted that they belong to the Sudanese government.
Meanwhile, the Sudan People’s Liberation Army – Juba (SPLA-JUBA) spokesman, Philip Aguer, said he also received a report from the sector commander in the area that 17 people were wounded in the bombing. He said SPLA-Juba would send an investigation team to Raja.
Radio Tamazuj is informed that the county is currently hosting elements of the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM), a Darfur rebel group battling the Sudanese government, which also fought alongside SPLA-Juba in the South’s civil war.
