Officials in Aweil North County of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State say a teenage boy died after he was bitten by a snake on Sunday.

The county commissioner, Victerino Ken Akoon, told Radio Tamazuj that the boy identified as Akuei Dut Angok died while being rushed to Majak-Kar health facility in Malual Center Payam.

“On Sunday, there was a 15-year-old boy who went to wash his clothes in the river and the snake attacked him and he died immediately at 8 pm. He was taken to the hospital for emergency life rescue, but all the efforts failed," said Ken.

The Paramount Chief of Malual Center, Ken Barjok Ken also confirmed the unfortunate incident saying the locals tried their best to save the boy's life.

However, Joseph Atem, Aweil North County Health Director, says the boy could have been saved if he was taken to a health facility with essential drugs.

“The boy was rushed to a certain clinic in Malual Center and when the child fell in a coma, they rushed him to Majak-Kar PHCC and he died on the way,” he said.
