At least 15 civilians including four government soldiers were killed in separate incidents in Torit town and its surrounding villages in South Sudan’s Imatong State over the past two weeks, a former local official said.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj yesterday, German Charles Ojok, former commissioner of Torit County, complained about rampant insecurity in Torit town and its surrounding villages this month.

“Two people were killed in Anyeth, and on 17 December, a vehicle carrying examination papers was ambushed in Agoro, and on the same day, a vehicle was attacked in Khordoleib and people were killed,” said Charles.

He pointed out that about 15 people were killed in separate incidents in the area this month.

Separately, Charles said that most of the local residents fled the area due to security fears and deteriorating living conditions.
