Paul Deng, Warrap State Minister of Health and Acting Information Minister, said cattle raiders came from Unity State attacked at 2:00 a.m. last night. They entered Alabek area in Tonj North County.

He said they tried to take hundreds of cows, but the “community police” in the area clashed with the raiders until morning, recovering some of the cattle.

He said 15 people were killed and 8 wounded. The minister said there was no displacement from the areas because it was a place inhabited by nomads, not permanent settlements.

Santo Mabech , press secretary of Tonj North commissioner, confirmed to Radio Tamazuj the same number of killed, but said that one of the wounded also later died, putting the number of dead at 16.
