15,000 residents in Greater Pibor face hunger

Authorities in the Greater Pibor Administrative Area (GPAA) report low stocks of food commodities in storages across the semi-autonomous area due to poor roads making it difficult to deliver goods.

GPAA Minister of Information and Spokesman Sam David voiced concern over the shortages of food items across the region since last April.

He attributed the problem to heavy rainfalls that affect the road linking the area with Bor and Juba. He noted that about 15,000 citizens in Gumbuk, Likuangule, Berten, Boma, and Pochalla North and South were experiencing a deteriorating humanitarian situation due to the food shortage.

He pointed out that the citizens in those areas are drinking milk to stay alive as they are cattle keepers.

Sam complained about lack of budget to repair the road and provide other services in the area, saying they are now waiting for this year’s budget to be passed by the National Legislative Assembly.
