Authorities in Lakes State’s Awerial County have arrested 14 suspects over the inter-sectional fighting that claimed a life of wrestler.
The young wrestler died after he was evacuated to Mapourdit hospital for treatment on Monday.
Awerial County Commissioner Philip Garang Mawut told Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday that the security forces had arrested the 14 youths over a sectional violence, which resulted into a death of the young wrestler.
“The cause of the fight is not yet clear but the fight broke out during a wrestling game between the Abuotdiit of Bor and the Kokgop of Awerial counties last Thursday,” he said.
“According to the report, a young wrestler suffered a severe injury in his head in the fight. The young man passed on in Mapourdit hospital on Monday.”
Mawut said the death prompted the hunt for the suspects, leading to the arrest of the 14 youths to help with the investigations.
Mawut conveyed his condolences to the relatives and friends of the deceased and asked them to allow the law to take its course.
“The government is following this case. We don’t know how it happened, but we will do the investigations to find out the cause of the fight,” he said.
Attempts to reach the chairperson of Awerial County Wrestling Association, Bub Mading Bub, for comments were unsuccessful.
