Malaria cases are increasing among children at Wau Teaching Hospital in Western Bahr al Ghazal State where at least 14 children died of malaria and anaemia in last August.
James Angelo Marcello, doctor in charge of the children’s ward, said in a press statement that the hospital had received 439 cases of malaria and anaemia including 14 deaths in August.
He pointed out that the children’s ward is still overcrowded with malaria and anaemia patients. Dr. James Marcello attributed the deaths to reluctance of parents to bring their children to the health facility early besides the shortage of medical equipments for blood transfusion to save the children’s lives.
The doctor stressed the need to educate citizens about the dangers of the disease, while urging families to bring their patients to the hospital early.
