13 killed and 9 injured in separate attacks in Dollo county of Jubek state

Authorities of Dollo County in Jubek State say continuous insecurity since the end of last month has led to the death of 13 people, 9 injured and many displaced.

Dollo County Commissioner Lukudu Alhaj Mustafa told Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday that cattle keepers believed to be from Terekeka State launched attacks on the farming communities in his county.

“On 27 July, cattle keepers came to one of the Bomas and shot at 4 young men, and on the 5 August, there is a group of young men shot at and seven of them died by the same group of cattle keepers. On Friday also, on 10th August they attacked one of the villages called Burengá and killed two children, they burnt them in the house, and shot at the parents but they are at the hospital receiving treatment,” Mustafa said.

The commissioner said people in the county are living in fear of more attacks saying it is difficult to provide security in the area due to the presence of many armed groups.

He added that authorities of both states have been briefed and are yet to resolve the issue.

“Our governor has met with the governor of Terekeka and they are in communication and maybe soon the two communities will meet, people will sit together so that they can come out with solutions to the issues.”

Mustapha said due to the insecurity, the local farmers have not been able to go to their farmlands. He called for tolerance and peaceful coexistence.
