Police investigating the murders of two people last month in Torit State have arrested 12 people. Those arrested from Haforiere village in Torit East County included the elderly.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Saturday, Torit police spokesperson Mathew Ochan Jacob said arrests came in the wake of last month’s killing of two people on the road that links Torit to Imatong areas.
He said the 12 suspects were seized with their animals and currently in police custody.
“Now the investigator is continuing with his work because the footmarks people were following went to the other area and entered Haforiere area and that is why the people found related to them were arrested and are under police custody,” Ochan said.
He further said all animals apprehended will be handed over to the owners.
However, a youth from Haforiere village, who spoke on condition of anonymity, claimed soldiers raided all their cows and took them to the military barracks.
He said those arrested were not beaten, but taken into custody.
On his part, the Torit East County commissioner, Toby Majak Thomas said soldiers took cows that had occupied four kraals, adding that those arrested were found in the kraals.
