11 suspects arrested over robberies in Maban

Police are holding 11 suspects in connection with a spate of robberies in Northeast Maban County of Northern Upper Nile State.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Tuesday, Major Gen. Manyok Jurkuch, the state police commissioner said the 11 suspects were involved in criminal activities in the county. He added that police believe that the suspects robbed some aid agencies in the area.

He pointed out that police also confiscated several of the suspects’ belongings, which included cell phones and foreign currencies.

Emmanuel Francis, the state prosecutor, said the 11 suspects were charged under Articles 48, 245, 247 and 305 of the penal code.

He pointed out that the accused will be taken to court on completion of legal proceedings.

In December last year, the UN agency coordinating relief efforts (OCHA) said armed men in uniform carried out attacks on  aid workers in the Maban area.
