11 Darfur students arrested after clashes with NCP students at Sennar University

About 11 students from Sudan’s Darfur region were arrested by security agents after they clashed with students affiliated to the ruling National Congress Party (NCP) at the University of Sennar in Al-Suki area on Tuesday.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday, a member of the Darfur Students’ Association at the university claimed that NCP students attacked them in their hostel.

He further said eight students from Darfur and five NCP students were injured. He added that they are receiving treatment at a local hospital.

“The NCP students went to the hostel and broke into their belongings and looted everything from them. We reported the case to the administration but they were demanding hostel insurance. Now students are no longer in the hostel,” the source said.

Another student claimed that security personnel have been attacking Darfur students within the university. He pointed out that some of the students who sustained injuries were detained.

“I am calling upon rights activists and organizations to quickly intervene so the students can be freed from detention and resume their studies,” he said.
