At least 10 people were killed and four others wounded in revenge attacks between armed youth from Gony and Thuyic sections in Western Lakes State.
The incident, between the two rival communities of Western Bahr Naam County, started on Thursday.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Sunday, Western Lakes State information minister, Isaac Majak confirmed the incident. He said at least 10 people were killed and four others injured from both sides during clashes.
“These revenge killings occurred after some armed youth from Thuyic section ambushed some youth from Gony, killing one person. Shortly after the ambush, armed youth from Gony retaliated and the clashes erupted between both sides,” he said.
Majak pointed out that security forces have been deployed in the area after the incident. “The government dispatched organized forces and the security situation has now been controlled,” he said.
The state minister noted that the wounded were taken to hospital for treatment.” Revenge killing is the cause of most insecurity cases in the state,” he explained.
The official urged feuding communities in the state to embrace peace, unity and harmony.
According to reports, the routine of revenge attacks in Western Lakes prevails because of a lack of an efficient justice system.
