At least 10 civilians including soldiers were killed and three others including Lafon County Commissioner injured in an ambush by gunmen along the Torit-Lafon road in South Sudan’s Imatong State on Monday, a spokesperson for the SPLA army said.

Brig. Lul Ruai Koang, spokesperson of the SPLA army, told Radio Tamazuj yesterday that about 10 people including soldiers were among the dead. He further said the commissioner’s convoy came under attack while carrying salaries for civil servants in Lafon County. He added that the attackers took the salaries after the ambush.

“There was a convoy that left Torit and it was heading to Lafon, the soldiers were escorting that convoy, because the vehicles were carrying salaries for the civil servants in Lafon,”said Lul.

“I do not know maybe the criminals got some information, so they ambushed that convoy and killed 10 people and three others were inuried,”he added.

Separately, Lul Ruai confirmed that two passengers were injured in separate incidents when an armed group ambushed two commercial vehicles along the Juba-Nimule road on Monday morning.

He revealed that another armed group burned a bus on the Kampala-Nimule road and robed civilian’s properties.
