Authorities in Tonj South County of Warrap State said an officer from the prison services was killed in an ambush at Chueichol Boma, Manyang-ngok Payam over the weekend.

Authorities in Tonj South County of Warrap State said an officer from the prison services was killed in an ambush at Chueichol Boma, Manyang-ngok Payam over the weekend.

Mabior Ajiech, Tonj South acting area commissioner told Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday that the deceased officer was going to his sisters’ houses at Rak village at the border of Tonj South county of Warrap state and Cueibet county of Lakes state.

“The incident happened at Cueichok Boma of Manyangok Payam. Cueibet herders consulted the payam administrator of Manyang-ngok, Tonj South County to allow their cattle to graze in the territory of Warrap state,” he explained. “The Payam administrator called the meeting on Saturday last week and after the meeting, the officer called Matueny Akuot with his bodyguard was going to Rak village where the late has four sisters married there after a kilometer to the sisters’ houses, he got shot by three bullets and died on spot,” Ajiech explained.

Ajiech accused the armed cattle youth who were in the meeting of carrying out the attack.

He added that the county authorities have apprehended the relatives of the accused and an investigation is going on.

“I talked to my county colleague Gen. Madit Mayual, the acting commissioner of Cueibet county, Lakes state and we again met on Tuesday and managed to arrest the chief, elder uncle, and the mother of the perpetrator and he (the suspect) spotted toward swampy area (Toch) at the side of Tonj East County and security forces are pursuing him,” he stressed.

For his part, Gen. Madit Mayual, Lakes state’s Cueibet County commissioner confirmed the incident and pledged to contain the security situation at the borders.

“We met with Tonj South authorities and we were discussing the security issues of theft and unintended killing at the border so these are also administrative issues but we will keep the borders secure,” he said.
