One person was killed in a motorbike accident in South Sudan’s Northern Bahr el Ghazal State on Saturday, police said.
The incident occurred near Salam Girls’ Primary School in Aweil.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Monday, Major Maria Abuk Akuei, the director of traffic police in the state said over-speed caused the accident, which occurred at about 1:30 pm.
“The accident occurred on August 23, 2020, near Salam Girls’ Primary School at about 1:30 pm. The deceased was identified as Dhieu Jiel Dhieu. He was riding on a high-speed until the motorbike jumped over rocks meant for building purposes,” she explained.
The officer urged the public not to over-speed when driving or riding.
Reec Mathok Diing, the medical director of Aweil Civil Hospital, said Dhieu died as a result of a fractured skull. “His head hit a rock and there were fractions on the head,” he said.
Diing urged the police to step up road safety campaigns in the state.
