At least one person was killed, another injured and more than 200 cattle stolen during a raid over the weekend at Makuei Alorweng village in Gogrial East County of Warrap State.
“It was on 29th when armed men who were believed to come from Mayom County killed a 15-year-old boy at Makuei Alorweng village and the same attackers wounded one person and two other people ran for their lives,” Maluach Malueth, Gogrial East Commissioner told Radio Tamazuj. “The attackers raided 216 herds of cattle.”
The commissioner added that he contacted his Mayom counterpart and he agreed to send forces to establish details of the raid.
Malueth noted that there are forces in the area but they were not deployed in the cattle camp where the raid took place.
“None of the attackers was injured because civilians of Gogrial East County were disarmed since 2017 when Apuk section had a conflict with Aguok section. There is nothing we can do now but to ask cattle keepers to bring back their cattle so that they will get pumped water,” he added.
Meanwhile, Warrap State’s information minister Riing Deng Ading confirmed the incident and condemned it.
“The government condemns this attack because it is the fifth attack. We extended also our call to the Unity State government to help in cracking down on the criminals,” he said.
Unity State officials were not immediately available for comment.
