At least one person was killed and two others injured in an attack on Duk Padiet County in Jonglei State by gunmen on Saturday, a local official said.

Duk Padiet County Commissioner Martin Matien Gumwel told Radio Tamazuj on Sunday that the incident occurred when armed youth ambushed cattle herders who were grazing their cattle in the county.

Commissioner Matien pointed out that over 1,000 cows were raided but they managed to recover 50 cows during fighting with the attackers.

He accused a group of cattle rustlers from Boma State of involvement in the incident.

Government officials in Boma State could not immediately be reached for comment.
