At least one person from the Wildlife forces was shot dead and one wounded in the arm when a group of night raiders attacked Makuriric residential area, looting cattle at 1:45 a.m. in Rumbek Central County on Tuesday this week.

The county police have confirmed the incident, but say the exact figures of cattle raided yesterday have not been established and authorities are struggling to get the correct information.

The incident occurred following another night cattle raid on Sunday night that killed one cattle onwer in the same place of Makuriric. The town residents are calling upon the state government and organize forces in Rumbek to resume night patrolling in Makuriric and Makoi residential areas.

The Acting Governor of Lakes State, Samuel Wel Machiek, confirmed that the raid took place on the outskirts of the town, saying the suspected criminals are from Rup community.
Machiek said the police and organized forces went to the scene last night in two vehicles in an attempt to rescue the cattle, noting they recovered 15 out of 27 cattle.

He also confirmed the killing of one soldier from the wildlife service.

Cattle raiding and revenge killing have been an issue in Rumbek Central and Rumbek North counties since conflict broke out between the three communities of Kuei, Rup and Pakam last year.
