At least one trader was killed, four wounded and one person missing after an unknown person opened fire on a commercial truck between Amiet market in Abyei and Mayen Abun on Tuesday.

An eyewitness who preferred anonymity told Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday that the incident occurred after a commercial vehicle left Amiet market enroute to Kuajok town through Mayen Abun road.

He pointed out that the incident resulted in the killing of one person and wounding of four others including the driver, adding that one person is still missing after the attack.

He noted that the wounded people were taken to Kuacjok Teaching Hospital for treatment."A trader called Akol who owned some shops in Kuajok town hired a truck to go to Abyei and transport his goods, so while the truck was en route from Amiet market in Abyei through Mayen Abun road, an unknown person opened fire on it, killing the trader who hired the truck on the spot,” he said.

“He also injured the driver and three others who were on the truck and the truck was set on fire,” he added.

The eyewitness pointed out that the attacker managed to escape.
