1 killed, 2 wounded in ambush along Yei-Kaya road
At least one civilian was shot dead while two others critically injured when the bus they were travelling in was attacked by armed men along the Yei-Kaya road on Tuesday.
Yei River State information minister Alfred Kenneth Duku told Radio Tamazuj on Wednesday that the attackers shot randomly at the bus which was returning from Kaya without a convoy.
“The armed men tried to stop the taxi bus but the driver refused to stop and they started shooting at the bus injuring three civilians. Unfortunately, one of the injured persons passed away yesterday at around 5 pm,” he said.
Kenneth added that the two who were injured are in stable conditions and are receiving treatment at Yei State Civil Hospital.
Nobody has claimed responsibility for the bus attack but Kenneth said the police have dispatched an investigation team to the scene of the incident.
This is the first attack along the Yei-Kaya road since the beginning of this year.
