1 killed, 16 injured after car overturns in Abyei

At least one person has been confirmed dead and 16 others wounded after a Land Cruiser vehicle carrying 17 passengers overturned between Amiet main market and Abyei town on Friday morning.

The deceased was identified as Samuel Deng.

Abyei’s Acting Medical Director for Abyei Hospital, Peter Chol, confirmed to Radio Tamazuj today that they have received one person killed and 17 others wounded when the car accident.

“I don’t know the number of passengers who were on board but we have now received 17 people including a dead body,” he said.

He explained that the Land Cruiser vehicle was carrying 17 passengers from Amiet market heading to Aneet Town of Rumamer County where it overturned owing to overspending.

Bulabek Deng Kuol, Paramount Chief of the Dinka Ngok tribe, said the driver escaped after the accident and that the authorities are still searching for him.

He pointed out that the driver hails Unity region.
