1 dead, six wounded at Yei funeral rite attack

At least an 18-year old lady has been killed and six others injured when a gunman opened fire on Friday evening at Lomuku area in Yei, according to local officials and military sources

The incident happened when mourners were attending a last funeral rite. The shooting took place at 10:30 PM, local residents and police authorities say. The victims who are being treated in local health facilities say they were caught up by surprise. Eyewitnesses suspected unnamed tall and familiar person behind the attack.

 One suspect was immediately identified and linked to the shooting one of the government soldiers who was arrested and is undergoing investigations, according to Fikri Fahad Omar, Acting Chief Inspector of Police in Yei River County.

The Inspector advises residents to avoid taking much alcohol and unnecessarily move with guns in public gatherings. Witnesses described how the relaxed moment evening turned into a bloodbath. "We were sitting together chatting with three friend we suddenly heard a sound of the gun. At first we thought it was a misfired gun, then there was a lot of sustained gunfire," witness Paul Yaunha, said Sunday where reached to say what he knowns about the latest incident in a restive town.

"After the gunfire everyone started to run away. We left as well. There was someone next to me who was shot and fell on the floor. We tried to help him by the fire raged, so sought cover”, he explained"
