1 dead in cattle camp attack in Twic East County

A man was reported killed and another man was hurt in clashes with unidentified cattle thieves in Twic East County of Jonglei State on Monday evening.

A man was reported killed and another man was hurt in clashes with unidentified cattle thieves in Twic East County of Jonglei State on Monday evening.

Twic East County Commissioner Dau Akoi Jurkuch told Radio Tamazuj that the gunmen came and attacked Pathieng, about 5 kilometres away from the county headquarters.

“The incident took place after the cattle were taken for grazing. So from there the criminals came and took the cattle,” he said.

The official confirmed that the attackers managed to take cows of seven cattle camps in the area, saying local youths and police are still pursuing the criminals.

The commissioner said one of the local youths was killed and another was wounded during the clashes with the cattle raiders. He pointed out that the wounded was taken to a hospital in the county headquarters for treatment.

Over the weekend, a woman was reported killed and a man was hurt in an attack on a cattle camp in Pakeer payam by cattle raiders believed to be from Gumruk area in Pibor Area.
