Police in Kuajok town, the capital of South Sudan’s Warrap State, have said one person was killed in a road accident while eight other people are in custody for traffic offenses.
Brigadier General James Wol Tong, Warrap state director of traffic police told Radio Tamazuj on Monday this week that cases of traffic accidents are on the rise and led to the death of an elderly woman on Monday.
“The accident occurred at Anguei village near the governor’s state house where a motorcycle collided with a car and a 52-year-old woman called Abuk Deng Diing died immediately she was on the motorcycle,” he said.
“On date 13th of this week four traffic accidents occurred, one happened in Block 19 where 27-year-old youth called Rong Bai collided with Maluak Mabior who is 23 years. The motorcycles collided at 9:05 AM but there is no death incident occurred. Angui Deng Manyuat aged 21 collided with Joseph Akech 28 years old at Mangar village. Akot Wol Mou, 35, and Deng Malek Nuoi, 32, collided with a car and motorbike at Barpuot, and still, there is no death incident reported there,” he explained.
Brigadier Wol said that the eight people were arrested due to accident-related cases and court proceedings are ongoing in Kuajok town.
Meanwhile, the newly appointed mayor John Akol promised to enforce traffic rules.
“I want to make Kuajok town clean and there is a need to set up traffic rules, many accidents occurred and there are lots of cattle in town so I will make bumps to reduce speed in the town,” he said.
