The police in Eastern Equatoria State have confirmed that a man was killed and two other men were injured during an ambush along the Kapoeta-Camp 15 road on Monday evening.
25-year-old Emmanuel Seid died on the spot while Samuel Lokolong, 25, and Jok Lokutai, 22, sustained injuries and are receiving treatment in Torit and Kapoeta respectively.
Major General John Luny Puk, the acting police commissioner in the state, said investigations are ongoing to bring the suspects to book.
“There was an ambush laid by criminals between Kapoeta South and Camp 15 in Budi County and we lost one person and two others were wounded. A car coming to Torit which had given the two passengers a lift was attacked,” he said. “We managed to deploy our forces from Kapoeta to Camp 15 yesterday and they went to the crime scene. Today (Tuesday), we dispatched our team to Camp 15 to follow the footmarks of the criminals.”
The police boss said the local authorities and youth are helping police to trace the footmarks of the criminals.
Meanwhile, Charles Onen Lokwaruk, the chairperson of the civil society network in the state, decried the increasing road ambushes across the state.
“Insecurity has started again and we have witnessed several killings along key roads, especially in Kapoeta and Lafon counties. As civil society, we are condemning acts of violence. Our communities are taking the law in their hands and we condemn this and we convey our condolences to the bereaved families,” he said. “We urge our communities to refrain from using arms against our people and instead bring issues to the table for discussions.”
