At least one person was killed and two others injured in an attack carried out by gunmen on Makolcuei village in Bor West County of South Sudan’s Jonglei state on Wednesday morning, a local official said.
Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Thursday, the Commissioner of Bor West County, Simon Thon Ayuel said the attackers also abducted a six-year-old boy in the village.
“On Wednesday around 2:00 am, gunmen attacked one home in Makolcuei Boma. They abducted a six-year-old boy and wounded the grandmother of the boy and his brother,” he said.
Ayuen further said the wounded people were on their way to Bor Hospital for treatment. The local official pointed out that the attackers also took 135 goats and headed toward Boma state, while accusing Murle cattle raiders of involvement in the attack.
This is the second incident in the area after the two states signed a cessation of hostilities agreement in Juba recently.
