Soldiers vacate civilian facilities in Mugwo: official

Government and SPLA-IO forces who had previously occupied public institutions in Mugwo County of Yei River State for years have vacated and moved to their designated areas, a local official said.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj on Monday, the county commissioner, Emmanuel Taban confirmed that all public facilities in the county have now been vacated by all the armed forces.

“As I talk to you now, there is no government or SPLA-IO force occupying any school or public institution. Recently, government forces in Jambo primary school vacated the facility. We need to leave what has happened in the past and forgive those who have done wrong things to us. We need to move forward,” he explained.

Separately, Commissioner Taban said they have embarked on infrastructural development and reopening of health centers and primary schools.

“We want to connect the road network in the villages to facilitate movement of civilians, embark on food production, reopen all health facilities, nursery, primary and secondary schools to build the future of the young generation,” he stressed.

In September 2018, South Sudan government and opposition groups signed a peace agreement, aimed at ending the devastating civil war that killed almost 400,000 people since 2013.
