A rebel faction calling itself the South Sudan United Front/Army (SSUF/A) has returned to the capital Juba after signing a peace deal with the government last week.

The rebels led by Ajang Ajang Lino arrived in Juba this afternoon after signing a peace deal on 21 May in Uganda saying they have joined the government in search for peace.

Speaking to reporters at Juba airport, Ajang Ajang who is leading the rebel group said they have denounced violence and joined the current government.

For his part, the deputy press secretary in President Kiir’s office Paul Ongee commended the decision taken by Ajang’s rebel faction.

The peace deal signed between the Director General of Internal Security Bureau of National Security Service, Gen. Akol Koor and Ajang Ajang Lino provides for release of detainees.

The rebel group, according to the peace deal witnessed by Uganda’s government, will also be allocated ministerial positions in Lol, Aweil and Gok states, besides the integration of its forces into the SPLA army and other organized forces.

The rebel group led by the country’s former army chief Paul Malong Awn on Saturday said the deal signed by Ajang Ajang is condemned on the basis that is an insult to the name of the South Sudan United Front/Army.

“There is no way Ajang Ajang Lino could claim a faction in SSUF/A yet he is not a member,” said Gen. Paul Malong, leader of the South Sudan United Front/Army.
