South Sudan President Salva Kiir on Tuesday in a presidential decree appointed two officials to fill in positions that have remained vacant for over two years.

Deng Dau Deng Malek is the new deputy minister for foreign affairs and international cooperation, a position that was rendered vacant after Kiir fired Cirino Hiteng in July 2016.

Hiteng was appointed following the formation of the Transitional Government of National Unity in April 2016, to fill in the quota for former detainees in the government. No reason was given for his dismissal.

Deng has served as the chairperson for the national commission for war disabled, widows and orphans.

Similarly, Kiir appointed former deputy Chief Justice, Justice Madol Arol, as the chairperson of the Law Review Commission replacing Akolde Ma'an Tier, who died in office in 2015.
