South Sudan government said it has reached an agreement with the mediation team on all the pending issues at the peace talks except the power sharing ratio at the states level.

Information Minister Michael Makuei told state media on Sunday that the government agreed on all outstanding issues discussed in its meeting with the mediation team except the power sharing ratio allocated to the opposition at the local government level.

Makuei explained that their negotiating team met Sunday in Khartoum with the Sudanese mediation team and discussed all the key pending issues at peace talks.

“This remaining part is a very important part; it has to do with the states.  The position of the government is very clear. The government doesn’t want to be moving in the wrong direction, but to work for everlasting peace,” Makuei said.

However, the government spokesman expressed optimism that the only pending issue from their side will be resolved soon. “We will definitely sign peace, so my message to our people is that peace is coming and we will sing it.

“Let’s also pray so that God comes into our world so that peace comes to South Sudan,” he concluded.

President Salva Kiir on Saturday hinted at dropping his demand to maintain the controversial 32 states.
