The deliberations of Thursday’s meeting included Deng Alor, Gier Chuang, Kosti Manibe, Mach Paul and Rebecca Nyandeng de Mabuor.

A source told Radio Tamazuj that the closed-door meeting that lasted for four hours focused on reunification of the fragmented SPLM factions and matters pertaining to the ongoing peace process in South Sudan.

The source further said the former political detainees’ group said its top priority is peace in South Sudan.

“The group said the reunification of the SPLM party can be done after a peace agreement when the factions are in Juba. They said they do not have any problem with the reunification of the party but it should be after a signed peace agreement,” he said.

The former detainees, according to the official, emphasized the importance of an inclusive peace process in South Sudan.

In May, the SPLM National Liberation Council in Juba endorsed the Arsuha reunification agreement to reunify fragmented factions of the historical party.

According to the resolutions, the SPLM-NLC members who failed to attend the meeting in Juba to attend the next meeting, which is scheduled to take place within 45 days.
