Wau municipality bans plastic bags

Municipal authorities in Wau, Western Bahr al Ghazal recently banned the use of plastic bags in  markets, shops and residential areas.

The deputy mayor Anthony Barandi has directed traders to stop importing the plastic bags.

“The decision of banning plastic bags in the markets had been issued by Wau Commissioner since 2005, but we have seen that it should be effective for environmental reasons,” the official explained.

Barandi confirmed that anyone found using plastic bags will be punished with a fine or imprisonment or both.
