UN asks government to let foreign aid into South Kordofan

The Under-Secretary-General of the UN for Humanitarian Affairs, Valerie Amos has asked the Sudanese government to allow UN agencies and foreign aid organizations into areas controlled by the Sudan People's Liberation Movement.

The official Sudan news agency SUNA reported that Amos said some areas in Southern Kordofan controlled by the SPLM are suffering from chronic malnutrition, diseases and food shortages.

The Commissioner for Suleiman Abdul Rahman said the UN for Humanitarian Affairs should submit a report addressing how to deliver humanitarian aid to the area. The government said it will study it and respond accordingly.
