Probe into the killing of businessman in South Darfur

South Darfur Governor Adam Mahmud Jar el Nebi has issued an order forming an ad hoc committee to investigate the assassination of renowned businessman Ismail Ibrahim.

The businessman was allegedly killed by ‘janjaweed’ militia, which triggered demonstrations within the state. Angry citizens blaming the state government for failure to protect citizens in the state even burned down some government buildings.

Chairing the committee will be the head of the legal affairs department in the state, Idris Hamid Idris, while other named members are Colenel El fadil Yusuf, a legal advisor of the 16th Division, a National Intelligence and Security Service representative, and the deputy secretary-general of the state government.

The decree has directed the committee to thoroughly probe the murder of Ismail Ibrahim Wadi and take legal measures against anyone suspected of involvement in the recent incidents in South Darfur.
