Meiram herder says no justice in Bahr El Ghazal theft case

A Misseriya cattle owner from Meiram says that authorities have failed to arrest the perpetrator of a cattle theft that occurred in May in Northern Bahr El Ghazal. The owner says that he lost 25 head of cattle in a theft allegedly perpetrated by one of his hired herders.

The citizen Abbas Abdul Rahman from the Meiram area said that the theft occurred in Al Timan area on the road between Meiram and Aweil in Northern Bahr el Ghazal. Twenty-five (25) calves were taken by a shepherd named Dud Alei, he alleged.

Abbas Abdel Rahman accused his former herder of announcing his departure and then leaving work with a group of cattle on 17 May.

The Meiram citizen explained that he has opened a communication with the police in Meiram but they were unable to pursue the offender because he stays in South Sudan where they do not have authority. Speaking over Radio Tamazuj, he appealed to the authorities in the South and in the Bahr el Ghazal in particular to return the calves.
