KCB manager arrested over sexual harassment claims released on bail

A manager of the Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) South Sudan branch has been bailed after being arrested following sexual assessment allegations against him by his former female employee.

Police Spokesperson Major General Daniel Justin told Radio Tamazuj this morning that the bank manager surrendered himself to the police in Juba on Saturday and was interrogated.

“He was not arrested on Friday because he was found busy at work, but he came on Saturday by himself to the police station. But he was later released on bail after interrogation,” Justin said.

The police spokesperson pointed out that the case will be transferred to court soon.

The bank manager, identified as Roba Waqo, was being questioned by police authorities after being accused of sexual harassment by one of his former female employees.

Last month, an employee of the Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) South Sudan branch resigned, citing claims that she encountered incidents of harassment from the manager.

Bahijah Beatrice, a former Information Technology manager at the KCB, tendered her resignation on 25 May 2022.

According to section 396 of the South Sudan Penal Code 2008, whoever intentionally engages in sexual harassment commits an offense, and upon conviction, shall be sentenced to imprisonment for a term not exceeding three years, liable to a fine or both.
