‘Celebratory’ gunfire kills two, wounds ten in South Darfur

Two people were killed and ten others wounded last week when a man opened fire in the air at a wedding in Rehed El Berdi Locality in South Darfur of Sudan.

The victims were rushed northward to Nyala Hospital for treatment, but a man and woman who had been injured at the wedding died in the hospital.

“The perpetrator was using a machine gun in the wedding ceremony when he was dancing. Then he shot and wounded ten people in the wedding ceremony,” a source confirmed.  

The perpetrator and victims were relatives. The two victims were identified as Al Tair Ahmed El Migdam and Zamzam Ahmed, brother and sister of the shooter. 

“The culprit shot ten bullets resulting in the killing of his sister Zamazam Ahmed and Al Tahir as well as wounded other ten people who were extended family members,” said an eyewitness.

The offender was reported to be living in now “remorse and depression” in addition to deteriorating health. He attempted to run away following the incident, but relatives managed to return him back home.
