The Aweil Midwifery School in South Sudan’s Northern Bahr el Ghazal state graduated its first class of 17 students Wednesday, three years after the school opened its doors in 2012.

Acting Director General for Ministry of Health Chan Akol paid tribute to the students for their commitment and endurance to complete the 3-year training successfully.

He said the graduates would make a change in health in the state when they are deployed in Aweil State Hospital and in county health facilities.

The Aweil Midwifery School’s diploma course in midwifery is supported by an Australian NGO named Partisan and by the UNFPA.
