Akuoch Ajang, Chairman of the South Sudan Civil Society Alliance (SSCSA), said the final outcome of the peace talks will be announced on Sunday afternoon.

The closed-door discussions between the South Sudan parties in Addis Ababa are facilitated by religious leaders.

Speaking to Radio Tamazuj from Addis Ababa this afternoon, Akuoch said the negotiations were ongoing between the warring parties through thematic committees on governance, security, and leadership to resolve outstanding issues today.

He noted that they have already received reports from the thematic committees.” For example the security committee has made a breakthrough on cantonments and timeframe, so they agreed that it should be from 30 to 90 days,” he explained.

The civil society activist pointed out that the leadership committee could not progress well saying the group was still discussing issues pertaining to leadership and trust building.

“Discussions on the responsibility sharing between members of the leadership committee were quiet difficult,” Akuoch said.

Akuoch revealed that his alliance had presented its position on peace in South Sudan to the mediation team. “But we were advised not announce it via media,” he said.

The South Sudanese activist urged the warring parties to negotiate in good faith to make peace in the country, citing suffering of citizens. He accused the warring parties of obstructing peace in the country.

“If the ongoing peace talks fail to bring peace, I tell the people of South Sudan that your time has come. If these people fail to sign a peace agreement, we will have a position,” he said.
