Gunmen attacked a commercial boat at Gedakwet area of South Sudan’s Eastern Lakes State on Saturday and robed over 7 million South Sudanese Pounds, a local official said.

Anyuot Aluong Anyuot, the chairperson for Jonglei's Boats Union, told Radio Tamazuj on Monday that the incident occurred in Eastern Lakes when the boat was returning from Tayar area in Unity State.

“The boat was hired by businessmen to transport their goods to Bentiu, so when the boat was returning to Bor town, it was stopped at gunpoint at Gedakwet area. The attackers robed over seven million Pounds,” he said.

The official pointed out that no one was hurt in the incident. Anyuot appealed to the relevant authorities in Jonglei and Eastern Lakes states to provide security.
