The leadership of the Twic Mayardit Youth Association for Development (TMYAD) in Juba has appealed to Justice Minister Michael Makuei to release six senior military officers and other figures who hail from Warrap State who have been detained since December 2025 and February 2026.
A letter dated 2 June to the minister listed the detained persons as Maj. General Manasa Machar Bol Yai, Maj. General Dominic Juuk Chom, Amb. Ajiing Deng Ajiing, Brig. General Kuot Garang Kuot, Madam Achan Agoth Achiec, and Deng Dut Koor.
“The leadership of the Twic Mayardit Youth Association for Development in Juba respectfully writes to your esteemed office regarding the continued detention of these figures and former constitutional post holders,” the letter reads in part. “It is in light of these constitutional safeguards that we respectfully submit our appeal regarding the prolonged detention of the aforementioned individuals.”
“We believe that the interest of justice, public confidence in the state institution, and adherence to constitutional principles required that their case be resolved through appropriate legal process, the letter added.
The youth leaders argued that their petition is grounded in the principles of constitutionalism, due process, and the rule of law as enshrined in the Transitional Constitution of the Republic of South Sudan.
“We request that the detainees be formally charged and presented before a competent court of law to answer any allegations against them. In the alternative, if the investigation has not yielded sufficient grounds for prosecution, we respectfully request that they be released,” the letter said. “Honorable Minister, we therefore respectfully appeal to your office to review the status of these matters and take the necessary steps to ensure compliance with the constitution and the laws of the Republic of South Sudan.”
