US proposes sanctions draft to UNSC
The US has circulated a draft resolution to the UN Security Council threatening Sudan and South Sudan with sanctions if they do not implement the African Union's demands to stop clashes and resolve their disputes.
US ambassador to the UN, Susan Rice told reporters that the Council discussed a draft resolution on Friday, although talks between members will take a few more days before a ballot.
Rice said the draft's purpose is to provide support to the AU who asked for the demands to be legally binding to the two countries.
Sudan's ambassador to the UN Daffa-Alla Elhag Ali Osman told reporters any decision by the UNSC should direct all threats to South Sudan as Sudan is the 'victim in this recent attack.'
